Just recently, she was the 1st Place Winner in the International Educational Exhibit sponsored by the National League of New York City. Over the years, Sophia has won awards in Stockholm, Sweden ~ Venice, Italy ~ Paris, France as well as here in the United States.

These paintings are of life as she saw it while doing missionary work for about five years in Honduras and Guatemala. Many of her paintings are of people in the area before going off to Honduras. They are "A as in Apple" ~ "3 Sisters" ~ "Hanna and Jeff" ~ and although these paintings were done 25 to 30 years ago, they are still timeless because they are dealing with issues that need to be confronted: TO LOOK BEYOND THE COLOR OF THEIR SKIN, AND TRY LOOKING WITHIN.

As a little girl she loved to color so much that she sat and ate her crayons down to the nibble, as a youngster, she won State and National Awards at Greenwich, Connecticut, and had her first one-woman show in 1946 ~ Over the years she studied with Westport Commercial Art School, as well as several well known Artists/Painters such as Daniel Greene, Leo Wong, Schetz, Cunninghosse, but her most favorite was Hayward Veal of England.

She thanks God most of all for giving her a gift to express herself since she doesn't consider herself much of a talker. Her hope is that you come away with a warm feeling after viewing her work

Sophia is also the winner of many Community Awards such as : The Humanitarian Award given by the Jaycees and the Distinguished Service Award give by the Brevard County Community Association.

She is a past teacher at Brevard Community College Outreach Program and is Founder of Honduran Christian Crafts with grants from the Church World Services and the Episcopal Church.
